*모포시스, 텍사스 자연사 과학 박물관 [ Morphosis ] Perot Museum of Nature and Science

빅토리 공원과 기존 과학 박물관 사이에 위치한 텍사스 자연사 과학 박물관은

텍사스의 랜드스케이프를 투영시킨 인공적인 랜드스케이프 위에 거대한

큐브형태로 디자인 되었습니다. 목포시스의 최근작인 박물관은 기술과 자연을 통합하는

장으로 균질적인 듯 보이지만 비균질적인 텍스쳐의 집합체로 구성됩니다.

건축가 특유의 공간 해체적 성향은 여기 박물관에도 여실히 드러내며

각각 공간을 다양한 경험의 공간으로 시간과 간극을 벌립니다.

이렇게 벌려진 공간들은 특유의 질감을 갖는 컨텐츠로

거친 판석의 작위적인 배치 속에, 건축물의 질감을 표현하는

다양한 패턴 속에, 박물관 대형 로비를 밝히는 중정의 천창 안에

표현됩니다.

분명, 한시대를 풍미했던 건축가의 진한 선들이 살아 있음을

느낍니다.

Morphosis has recently completed their Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, which in now open to the public. The main body of the museum, in the shape of a large cube, emerges from a large plinth covered in stones and drought-resistant grasses that reflects the Texas landscape. The new building is located in Victory Park and will replace some of the facilities of the existing Museum of Science and Nature, situated in the adjacent Fair Park.

By integrating nature and technology, the building demonstrates how high performance design (minimizing the impact on the environment) and cultivation of memorable museum experiences can transform architecture into an active tool for science education. To further the principle of integration, a path descending from the top floor through the galleries weaves in and out of the main atrium, connecting the internal world of the museum with the surrounding landscape of the city. “The museum is, thus, a fundamentally public building – a building that opens up, belongs to and activates the city; ultimately, the public is as integral to the museum as the museum is to the city.”
