architects woods + dangaran to camouflage modern 'moccasin flats' within utah desert
MOCCASIN FLATS: DESERT MODERNISM BY HIDDEN ROCK DEVELOPMENT
Hidden Rock Development group works together with architects Woods + Dangaran to design the Moccasin Flats, a trio of homes backdropped by Utah‘s otherworldly desert landscape. The low-density project represents a celebration of both the isolated, rugged terrain and clean, modernist architecture. Built among the rocks of Washington County, just outside Zion National Park, the buildings will harmonize with the natural context — plaster walls will mirror the hues and textures of the desert, visually blending into their backdrop and enhancing the atmosphere of seclusion. Each residence will integrate solar technology and will be built around the natural rock formations and arroyos to ensure drainage.
SECLUDED LUXURY HOMES DESIGNED BY WOODS + DANGARAN
Each Home within Hidden Rock Development Group’s Moccasin Flats will be flooded with ambient sunlight, as the architects at Woods + Dangaran incorporate floor-to-ceiling windows beneath deep overhangs, along with atriums, skylights, and glass sky bridges. Thus, the desert landscape is invited into the ten foot-high interiors and framed to create an airy, comfortable atmosphere. The large, open living spaces incorporate luxury kitchens and lead to serene bedroom suites. Each area of the homes, even bathrooms, open out to the isolated landscape through full height glazing. The rear of the homes frames postcard views of the mesa, and extend to the outdoor spaces, which will include amenities such as outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and swimming pools.
ARCHITECTURE INTEGRATED INTO THE RUGGED LANDSCAPE
The landscape elements at Moccasin Flats are further designed by Ground Studio Landscape Architecture using existing boulders and native plants. The rough mesa beyond, with its extreme verticality, is balanced by Woods + Dangaran through the use of elongated horizontal structures, creating an organic visual contrast. These homes range from 8,300 to 8,700 square feet, and offer five bedrooms, each situated on spacious fourteen-acre lots, the homes are at once grand, open, and secluded. Each home also includes two-bedroom, two-bath guest houses, along with an outdoor kitchen and dining space, a wellness gym, office, library, spa and sauna, fire pits, and a primary pool and plunge pool.
