have you ever seen a yellow fire station? in the commune of sand in taufers in northern italy, architecture firm pedevilla has completed a golden building distinguished by its color and straight functionality. despite its straightforward form, the project stands out against its alpine landscape to create a new landmark building for its south tyrol region.

as well as its playful character, pedevilla organized the building to accommodate all the programs required to serve its function; a fire station. the central room on the ground floor is the hall for the parking of rescue vehicles and for this reason it is directly connected to the street. other programs include the rooms for control, changing, maintenance, sleeping and equipment; to follow its the expression of color seen on the outside, the interior has also been finished in the mustard yellow shade.

the construction and material used are uniform and compact. the bearing structure made of reinforced concrete and the interior finishes making sure the building is flexible for different uses and future expansion. the area, sand in taufers, is known as an energy saving municipality and for this reason, focuses a lot on sustainable politics for environment and climate. with this, the fire station was designed with sustainability in mind.
